Vision Care for Your Concussion Patients

For physiotherapists and referring health professionals in Pickering, Ajax and Whitby

When a concussion patient stops making progress, the cause is often a vision problem that hasn’t been assessed. Dr. Seema Koria’s post-concussion vision program works alongside your treatment, and we take care of the booking, billing and paperwork.

Refer a patient: fax 905-686-4095, email vt@ajaxeyecare.com, or call our vision therapy line at 289-660-1543.

Why refer for a vision assessment

A concussion can disrupt how the eyes team, focus and track together. Patients often describe it as dizziness, headaches or fatigue, which overlaps with what you’re already treating.

You see these patients every week, so you’re often the first to notice. Treating the vision problem can remove a barrier that’s holding back their recovery in physio.

Symptoms to watch for

One or two of these, lasting past the first few weeks, is reason to refer.

What the patient saysWhat you might notice in treatment
“My vision is blurry” or “I see double”Symptoms flare during gaze stabilization or saccade drills
“I lose my place when I read”Avoids reading home exercise sheets, or skims them
“Screens give me headaches”Headaches build over the session, especially with visual tasks
“Grocery stores make me dizzy”Dizziness with busy visual backgrounds or head-and-eye movement
“Light bothers me”Squints, wears sunglasses indoors, prefers dim rooms
“My eyes feel tired all the time”Rubs eyes, closes one eye, or tilts head to focus
“I misjudge steps or bump into things”Balance is worse in busy visual settings

You don’t need to be sure it’s a vision problem. Dr. Seema Koria’s assessment will tell us.

About Dr. Seema Koria

Dr. Seema Koria leads the vision therapy program at Ajax Eye Care, with a focus on post-concussion vision rehabilitation for patients recovering from car accidents and workplace injuries.

She has practised optometry since 2012, after graduating with honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry & Vision Science, and holds the PVT credential through the Practical Vision Therapy Accreditation Program (PVTAP), offered by Vision Therapy Canada and ACBO. That training lets her look beyond eyesight to how the eyes and brain work together, which is often what a concussion disrupts.

Alongside her concussion work, Dr. Seema Koria treats children’s vision development and pediatric myopia, so your patients are seeing a doctor who works with visual skills every day.
